Meiji Emperor Silver Wedding Commemorative Stamp - Specimen -
Issued on March 9, 1894 (Meiji 27)
On March 9, 1894 (Meiji 27), Emperor Meiji and Empress were welcomed to a silver wedding ceremony for 25 years. At that time, Japan was still modeled after silver wedding ceremonies, but was modeled after Western countries.
This is Japan's first commemorative stamp. The design had male and female cranes on both sides, a chrysanthemum emblem in the center, and the printing color was 2 sen for domestic red and 5 sen for foreign blue.
