私が切手に興味を持ち、蒐集を始めたのは、今から50年前の昭和39年の事です。当時は東京オリンピックが開催される直前で、日本は高度経済成長期の真只中でした。小学校6年生だった私は、父親が買ってきた外国切手のパケット（数百種混合）や、知人に頼んで買ってきてもらった新発行の記念切手などを夢中で集めました。ある時、自宅の物置で遊んでいた私は、古い郵便封書の束を見つけました。数百枚の郵便物には、戦前から戦後初期にかけての通常切手や戦後間もない時期に発行された記念切手、国体切手、また、琉球切手などが多々貼付されていて、途轍もない宝物を発見した喜びに胸が高鳴ったのを今でも鮮明に覚えています。それから半世紀が経ち、継続して蒐集してきた日本切手は、明治4年の手彫切手に始まり、郵政事業民営化の2003年迄、凡そ4000種以上にもなりました。

これらの切手発行の歴史が、日本近現代史と重なっている事から、日本と世界の歴史認識資料として、2014年に「日本の郵便切手と近現代史」に関わる書籍を出版しました。

そして2022年、半世紀にわたって収集した日本切手のコレクションを広くご紹介するために、一般財団法人「日本郵便切手デジタル博物館」を設立し、ホームページを公開しました。

ここでは、日本近代史上の明治維新や文明開化と日本社会の変化、19世紀終盤から20世紀中盤迄に起こった日清・日露戦争、第一次世界大戦、アジア太平洋戦争などの世界各国との紛争や、終戦後の経済復興に至る迄の政治・経済史、また、日本古来の伝統文化や美しい自然や生物、スポーツイベントなど、日本と日本人のありのままの姿を、切手を通して和文と英文でわかり易くご紹介し、日本国内だけでなく、世界の皆様にご理解頂けるように編集してあります。

なお、各切手の画像は、見やすさを優先するため、縮尺は考慮していません。解説は、切手の細部紹介より、その発行目的や時代背景、意義などを優先して記載しています。

人生の大半をかけて蒐集してきたこの１５０年にわたる郵便資料が、ご覧頂く皆様のお役に立ち、心に触れる事がありましたら、これ以上の喜びはございません。

Greetings from the Director

It was 50 years ago that I became interested in stamps and started collecting stamps. At that time, just before the Tokyo Olympics were held, Japan was in the midst of a period of high economic miracle. As an elementary school student, I worked hard to collect packets of foreign stamps that my father bought (a mixture of hundreds of types) and newly issued commemorative stamps that I asked an acquaintance to buy. Around that time, I was playing in my storeroom and found a bunch of old mail envelopes. Hundreds of postage stamps are full of tremendous treasures, including regular stamps from prewar to early postwar, commemorative stamps issued shortly after the war, national polity stamps, and Ryukyu stamps. I still vividly remember the excitement of the joy I discovered.
Half a century has passed since then, and the number of Japanese stamps that have been continuously collected has reached more than 4000 types, starting with hand-carved stamps in the 1871（ Meiji 4） and by 2003, when the postal service was privatized.Since the history of issuing these stamps overlaps with the modern history of Japan, I published a book related to “Japanese postage stamps and modern history” in 2014 as a historical recognition material of Japan and the world.
And in 2022, in order to widely introduce the collection of Japanese stamps collected over half a century The general foundation “Japan Post Stamp Digital Museum” was established and the homepage was opened to the public.Here, with the Meiji Restoration and civilization in modern Japanese history, changes in Japanese society, the Japan-China-Japan-Russia war that occurred from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, the First World War, the Asia-Pacific War, and other countries around the world. Through stamps, you can see the true nature of Japan and the political and economic history leading up to the economic recovery after the end of the war, the ancient Japanese culture, beautiful nature and creatures, and sporting events. Introduced in an easy-to- understand manner, edited so that everyone in Japan and around the world can understand it.
The image of each stamp gives priority to visibility, so the scale is not taken into consideration. The commentary gives priority to the purpose of issuance, historical background, significance, etc., rather than the detailed introduction of stamps.
These 150 years of postal materials collected over most of my life are useful to everyone who sees them.If you touch your heart, there is no more joy.Then, please take a look at the elegant antique Japanese stamps and commentary.
