世界ベテランズ陸上選手権大会は、中高年の陸上競技愛好者たちによる世界的な生涯スポーツの祭典。世界マスターズ陸上競技大会ともいう。出場資格は，男子 40歳以上，女子 35歳以上で，各種目とも5歳ごとに年齢を区切っている。1975年にトロント (カナダ) で第1回大会が開催されて以来，2年に1回開催されている。第 10回大会が， 1993年 10月に宮崎市で開催され，78ヵ国，1万 2000人が参加した。切手はこの大会を記念して発行され、「ランナーとフェニックス」がデザインされている。

The World Veterans Athletics Championships is a global lifelong sports festival for middle-aged and athletics enthusiasts. Also known as the World Masters Athletics Tournament. The qualifications for participation are 40 years old and over for boys and 35 years old and over for girls, and the ages are divided every 5 years for each item. It has been held once every two years since the first convention was held in Toronto (Canada) in 1975.
