30th Anniv. of Normalization of Relation between Japan and Korea Issued on December 18, 1995 (Heisei 7)
In December 1965 (Showa 40), the Japan-Korea Basic Treaty was signed. The treaty confirms that the Japan-Korea Merger Treaty, which came into effect in 1910, is "invalid", restores diplomatic relations between the two countries that had been extinguished by the Japan-Korea merger, and the Government of South Korea is "the only legal one" on the Korean Peninsula. It was agreed to be the "government". In addition, through this treaty and ancillary agreements, Japan will abandon the infrastructure, assets, and rights left on the Korean Peninsula, and by providing more than two years' worth of South Korea's national budget at that time, Japan will establish diplomatic relations with Japan. It was agreed on economic cooperation with South Korea, the complete and final resolution of the claims between Japan and South Korea, and the normalization of Japan-South Korea relations based on them. Against the back- drop of the Cold War at that time, the United States mediated the negotiations between Japan and South Korea to conclude the treaty, and the Democratic People s Republic of Korea claims that the treaty is "invalid." Japan will provide South Korea with 10 years of Japanese products worth $ 300 million free of charge and services provided by Japanese people, and a total of $ 500 million will be given to the South Korean government for a fee of $ 200 million. It was agreed to waive each other's claims in the form of grant. But in the end, Japan provided about $ 1.1 billion in financial assistance. South Korea has undergone economic development from the poorest country with the construction of Pohang General Steel, Soyangjiang Dam, Gyeongbu Expressway, Hangang Railway Bridge, Lingdong Thermal Power Station, etc. with the claim financial assistance received from Japan. The stamp was issued in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea, and is designed with "Li Zhi's Hakomon Obiji".
