シーボルト生誕200年 1996 (平成8年) 2月 16日発行
シーボルトはドイツの医者。1796.年生まれ。江戸時代後期の1823 年長崎オランダ商館の医師として来日，翌年長崎郊外鳴滝に診療所を兼ねた学塾を開き，伊東玄朴，高野長英らに西洋医学および一般科学を教授した。1859年再来日，幕府の外交にも参与し，著書に『ニッポン』 『日本植物誌』 (Flora Japonica) ，『日本動物誌』 (Fauna Japonica) など日本関係の論著が多い。切手はシーボルト生誕200年を記念して発行され、「シーボルトとナツヅタ」がデザインされている。

Philipp Franz Balthasar von Siebold is a German doctor. Born in 1796. In 1823, in the latter half of the Edo period, he came to Japan as a doctor at the Dutch Trading Post in Nagasaki, and the following year he opened a school that doubled as a clinic in Narutaki, a suburb of Nagasaki, and taught Western medicine and general science to Genboku Ito and Choei Takano. He returned to Japan in 1859 and participated in the diplomacy of the Shogunate, and has written many books related to Japan such as "Nippon", "Fauna Japonica" (Fauna Japonica), and "Fauna Japonica". The stamp is issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Siebold's birth and designed with "Siebold and Natsuzuta".
