Philipp Franz Balthasar von Siebold is a German doctor. Born in 1796. In 1823, in the latter half of the Edo period, he came to Japan as a doctor at the Dutch Trading Post in Nagasaki, and the following year he opened a school that doubled as a clinic in Narutaki, a suburb of Nagasaki, and taught Western medicine and general science to Genboku Ito and Choei Takano.
