The 50th Anniversary of the Labour Standards Law Issued on September 1, 1997 (Heisei 9)
The Labor Standards Law is a law that stipulates the minimum standards for working conditions, etc., which came into effect on September 1, 1947 (Showa 22). Together with the Labor Union Law and the Labor Relations Adjustment Act enacted in the same year, it is called the Three Labor Laws. The Labor Standards Law is one of the labor laws that amends the principle of freedom of contract in modern civil society to protect workers, and the main addressee is the employer. It is positioned as an individual labor relations law as opposed to the collective labor relations law represented by the labor union law. Stamps are issued in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the enforcement of the Labor Standards Law, and are designed with "human characters".
