第52回国民体育大会は、1997年1月24日から10月30日の間、大阪府大阪市と北海道釧路市と秋田県鹿角市周辺で開催された。10月25日、長居陸上競技場で秋季大会が開幕。国体開会式としては史上最高の4万人が参加した。切手はそれを記念して発行され、「シンクロナイズドスイミング」がデザインされている。
52th National Athletic Meet Issued on September 12, 1997 (Heisei 9)
The 52nd National Athletic Meet was held from January 24th to October 30th, 1997, around Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Kushiro City, Hokkaido, and Kazuno City, Akita Prefecture. The autumn tournament begins on October 25th at Nagai Athletics Stadium. The highest number of 40,000 people participated in the opening ceremony of the National Athletic Meet. Stamps are issued in commemoration of that, and "synchronized swimming" is designed.
