第3回世界陸上競技選手権東京大会 1991年（平成3年）8月23日 発行 世界陸上競技大会は、1980年モスクワオリンピックの西側諸国のボイコット問題（1979年12月に発生したソ連のアフガニスタン侵攻の影響）を機に新設され、1983年にヘルシンキで第1回大会を開催した。当初は夏季オリンピック前年に4年ごとに開催されていたが、1991年東京大会以降は夏季オリンピック前年と翌年の2年ごとに開催されている。切手は、1991年8月に東京で開催された第3回大会を記念して発行され、「走高跳」と「砲丸投げ」がデザインされている。

The World Athletics Tournament was newly established in response to the boycott problem of the western countries of the 1980 Moscow Olympics (the influence of the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979), and held the first tournament in Helsinki in 1983. Initially, it was held every four years the year before the Summer Olympic Games, but since the 1991 Tokyo Games, it has been held every two years, the year before the Summer Olympic Games and the following year. The stamp was issued in commemoration of the 3rd tournament held in Tokyo in August 1991, and is designed with "high jump" and "shot put".
