Year of France in Japan Issued on April 28, 1998 (Heisei 10)

Year of France in Japan Issued on April 28, 1998 (Heisei 10)
The history of Japan-France relations begins in the early 17th century when Japan's Keicho Mission to Europe, which was heading for Rome by sea from Spain, landed in southern France in 1615. In the latter half of the 19th century, the two countries established important relations in the fields of military, economic, legal and artistic fields. After that, the two armed forces engaged in World War II, and after the war there was indirect involvement by the French government in the occupation of Japan, but after the recovery of diplomatic relations, the relationship has remained generally good. The stamp was issued in commemoration of the 1998 "French Year in Japan" (the previous year was the "Japanese Year in France") and was designed by Dracloawa's "Liberty Leading the People".
