50th Anniv. of the Science Council of Japan Issued on October 28, 1999 (Heisei 11)
The Science Council of Japan was established in 1949 after discussions by the Academic System Renewal Committee. A direct election was held by researchers, and at that time it was called the "National Diet of Scholars." The recommendation to the government realized the establishment of many centers and research institutes, and proposed the three principles of nuclear research. The Science Council of Japan leads the Science Council of Asia and serves as the secretariat and secretary-general. The stamp was issued in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Science Council of Japan, and designed by Mitsumasa Anno's "Mysterious World of Reinbow".
