日本外科学会 (Japan Surgical Society) は、1899年 (明治32) に創立され、外科学に関する会員相互ならびに内外の関連学術団体との研究連絡、知識の交換、提携の場を通して、外科学の進歩普及事業を行い、外科医療向上を目的とする学術団体である。切手は、その100周年を記念して発行され、花岡青洲 (はなおか せいしゅう：外科医) がデザインされている。
