Cultural Leaders Issued on November 6, 2000 (Heisei 12)
On November 6, 2000, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued three types of cultural stamps (9th collection). Hantaro Nagaoka, a physicist, Ukichiro Nakaya, a physicist, and Teijyo Nakamura, a poet. Hantaro Nagaoka left academic achievements such as advocating a Saturn-type atomic model. He also held important positions such as Professor of Tokyo Imperial University and President of Osaka Imperial University, and received the First Order of Culture in 1937 (Showa 12). Ukichi NakataniRo is a professor at Hokkaido University and succeeded in producing the world's first artificial snow. Teijyo Nakamura was born in 1900 (Meiji 33) and was active mainly in the Showa period. She is a pioneer of modern haiku, and she has left many famous haiku.
