The 110th Anniversary of the Diet Issued on November 29, 2000 (Heisei 12)
The Imperial Diet was established from the enforcement of the Constitution of the Empire of Japan in 1890 (Meiji 23) to the enforcement of the Constitution of Japan in May 1947 (Showa 22). It consisted of the House of Representatives and the House of Lords. The Imperial Diet was held from the 1st Parliament in 1890 (Meiji 23) to the 92 nd Parliament, which closed in March 1947 (Showa 22). In 1947, with the enforcement of the Constitution of Japan, the Diet became the legislature, the House of Representa- tives was maintained in the House of Representatives, and the House of Councilors was established in place of the House of Peers in the Senate. The stamp was issued to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the opening of the parliament, and is designed with a "mosaic of the Parliament building and floor".
