ライオンズクラブは、1917年「シカゴ・ビジネス・サークル」の幹事メルビン・ジョーンズが、ライオンズ協会 (Association of lions Clubs) を設立した。日本では1952年3月に東京ライオンズクラブが発足した。切手は、日本ライオンズクラブ設立年を記念して発行され、「ゴングと唐獅子がデザインされている。
The 50th Anniv. of Japan Lions Issued on March 1, 2002 (Heisei 14)
Lions Clubs was founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones, the secretary of the Chicago Business Circle, to establish the Association of lions Clubs. In Japan, the Tokyo Lions Club was established in March 1952. The stamp was issued in commemoration of the year when the Japan Lions Club was established, and "Gong and Karashishi are designed.
