In November 1953 (Showa 28), the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued two types of Unzen National Park stamps.Unzen National Park is a national park belonging to the Shima- bara Peninsula in Nagasaki Prefecture and the Amakusa Islands in Kumamoto Prefecture (including some Kagoshima Prefecture).In March 1934 (Showa 8), the Unzen district was desig- nated as Japan's first national park along with Seto Inland Sea National Park and Kirishima National Park (Kirishima Kinkowan National Park) as Unzen National Park. The Amakusa district.was incorporated in July 1956 and renamed the current Unzen-Amakusa National Park.
The total area is 28,279ha.At the same time, small sheet (with tato and transom) was issued.
