In February 1963 (Showa 38), the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued two types of Unzen-Amakusa National Park stamps (secondary). From this time, there are two types of national park stamps issued, which continued until 1974 (Showa 49) at Iriomote National Park.The first stamp was issued in 1953 (Showa 28). After that, in addition to Unzen, theAmakusa area entered the range.Unzen-Amakusa National Park belongs to the Shimabara Peninsula in Nagasaki Prefecture and the Amakusa Islands in Kumamoto Prefecture. The Unzen district was designated as Unzen National Park on March 16, 1934, along with Seto Inland Sea National Park and Kirishima National Park (currently Kirishima Kinkowan National Park), as the first national park in Japan. The Amakusa area was incorporated in July 1956 and renamed Unzen-Amakusa National Park, with an area of 28,279 ha.
