In June 1965 (Showa 40), the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued two types of Aso National Park stamps (secondary).Aso National Park is centered on Mt. Aso, which is said to be the origin of the former name of Kumamoto Prefecture, "Burning Country," and the Kuju Mountain Range, including Mt. Nakadake in Oita Prefecture. The total area is 72,678ha. In 1986, it was renamed "Aso Kuju National Park". The first stamps and small sheets were issued in 1939 (Showa 14).
