1973 (昭和48) 6月 、郵政省は、小笠原国立公園切手2種を発行した。小笠原国立公園は、東京都の小笠原諸島を中心とした国立公園。指定区域総面積6,629haは日本の国立公園の中で最小 であり、なおかつ公園指定範囲は全て小笠原村内にあり、単一行政単位 (市町村) 内のみで構成される日本唯一の国立公園である。
小笠原諸島は1968年 (昭和43) 、アメリカ軍政下 (1945～) から日本に復帰した。

In June 1973, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued two types of Ogasawara National Park stamps. Ogasawara National Park is a national park centered on the Ogasawara Islands in Tokyo. The total area of the designated area is 6,629ha, which is the smallest among the national parks in Japan, and the designated area of the park is entirely within Ogasawara Village, which is the only national park in Japan consisting of only a single administrative unit (municipalities). The Ogasawara Islands returned to Japan in 1968 (Showa 43) under the US military administration (1945-).
