New Year Greeting stamp Showa26 Issued on January 1, 1951
The 1951 New Year stamp was issued on January 1, 1951 (Showa 26). Currently, it is issued in December of the previous year as a preparation period for creating New Year's cards, but it is said that private postcards were in short supply because there was still a shortage of postwar supplies during this period. In addition to the reason, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications had the intention of issuing New Year's postcards with donations with priority and earning profits. There is also a view that it was necessary to secure profits by another method because GHQ stopped the outbreak of commemorative stamps in 1950. Therefore, all 400 million New Year's postcards of this year were issued with donations. On the other hand, only 10 million (1 / 40th against postcards )New Year stamps were issued. The design is "Rabbit and Girl", and a "small sheet" was distributed as a prize for New Year's postcards.
