New Year Greeting stamp Showa31 Issued on December 20, 1955
The 1956 New Year stamp was issued on December 20, 1955 (Showa 30). By this time, the economic situation in Japan had improved and the shortage of supplies had disappeared, but the policy of securing profits from donations from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has not changed. In this year as well, 520 million New Year's postcards with donations (face value 4 yen + donations 1 yen) were issued.
Only 6 million (1/87 against postcards) New Year stamps were issued. The design is a Tohoku toy "Kokeshi doll", and a "small sheet" was distributed as a prize for New Year's postcards.
