1966年用年賀切手は、1965年 (昭和40) 12月10日に発行された。この年も、寄付 金無し年賀はがき4円 (4億7500万枚) と、額面4円+寄付金1円はがき (6億1千万枚) が発行された。年賀切手は、3300万枚 (30分の一) が発行された。この年は、今までの年賀はがきと年賀切手の発行において、切手の比率が大きく上昇したという特徴がある。理由は、寄付金付き葉書での収益 (年賀はがきは、使用されない場合、普通葉書に交換された) より、年賀切手発行 (この頃の切手ブームにより、未使用で保有された) による収益が大きいと判断したためと考えられる。 (この年の発行数は数年前の1000万枚程度から3倍以上に増加している) デザインは、岩手県玩具の「しのび駒」であり、年賀はがき懸賞として「小型シート」が配賦された。
