1997年用年賀切手は、1996年 (平成8年) 11月15日に発行された。今年は、50円 (5千万枚) と80円年賀切手 (1千万枚) と、くじ付きの50+3円 (1500万枚) と80+3円年賀切手 (1千万枚) 4種が発行された。デザインは、50円切手と寄付金付き切手50＋3円が「沖縄張り子の闘牛」、80円と80＋3円は、ともに「高松人形の牛乗り子供」である。更に年賀はがき懸賞として年賀切手50円と80円を組み合わせた「小型シート」が配賦された。
