国際識字年 1990年（平成2年）9月7日発行 国際識字デー（International Literacy Day）は国際デーの一つ。毎年9月8日にUNESCOによって1965年11月に公式に宣言された。世界では、7億7600万人が文字が読めない状態である。そのうち3分の2は女性である。7500万人の子供は学校に行っていないか、中退している。UNESCOでは、言葉の価値に対する人々の意識を高めることと、識字社会を促進する活動を促進している。切手は1990年の国際識字デーを記念して発行され、ロゼッタ・ストーンと日本漢字の「字」が描かれている。
International Literacy Year Issued on September 7, 1990 (Heisei 2)
International Literacy Day is one of the international days. Officially declared in November 1965 by UNESCO on September 8th each year. In the world, 767 million people are unreadable. Two-thirds of them are women. 75 million children are out of school or have dropped out. UNESCO promotes people's awareness of the value of words and activities to promote a literacy society.
The stamp was issued in commemoration of International Literacy Day in 1990, and depicts Rosetta Stone and the Japanese Chinese character "ji".
