Trans-Pacific Submarine Cable Issued on May 10, 1989 (Heisei 1) The history of the Pacific submarine cable was opened in 1964 by TPC-1 (1st Pacific cable: Guam-Hawaii), and in 1975, it became TPC-2 (2nd Pacific cable: Okinawa-Hawaii, telephone line: 845 lines). Subsequently, in 1989, TPC-3 (3rd Pacific Cable) adopted optical fiber for the first time, and played an important role as a backbone including relay between the Asian region and Europe and the United States.
