World Bonsai Convention Issued on April 6, 1989 (Heisei 1) In April 1989, the 1st World Bonsai Convention was held in Saitama Prefecture, sponsored by the Japan Bonsai Association. It was the first large-scale international event in the Orient, attracting attention from around the world, and the number of registrants for the event was 733 from 31 countries around the world and 504 from Japan, for a total of 1237. Stamps are issued in commemoration of this tournament, and "Pinus parviflora and calligraphy (elegance)" are designed.
