Inauguration of New Railway System
Issued on April 1, 1987 (Showa 62)

Inauguration of New Railway System Issued on April 1, 1987 (Showa 62) On April 1, 1987, the Japanese National Railways (JNR) was newly established as "JR" due to the division and privatization. In 1949, the former Japanese National Railways was born as a public corporation from the Japanese railway business, which was a state-owned business at that time. JNR supported Japan's economic development with its transportation business, but since then, it has borrowed more than 30 trillion yen and is deeply involved.I fell into a state of ticking. Under these circumstances, in 1987, the business of JNR was taken over by 11 successor corporations and privatized.
Stamps are issued in commemoration of the inauguration of JR, and "linear motor car" and "first domestic steam locomotive" are designed.
