OKU-NO-HOSOMICHI SERIES 5 Issued on March 26, 1988 (Showa63) "Oku-no-hosomichi" is a travelogue and haiku* of the poet "Matsuo Basho" who was active during the Genroku culture period (late 17th century to early 18th century) in the Edo period. This literary work was published in 1702. It is a representative work of travel literature in Japanese classics, and is the most prominent of Basho's writings. Two types (4 stamps) of stamps are issued from the 1st to the 10th collections, and landscapes, people and haiku are designed for each. * Haiku is a fixed verse based on seasonal words and fixed verses that mainly consist of 5, 7, and 5 (17 sounds).
