南極観測船「しらせ」就航 1983年（昭和58年） 11月 14日発行
1983年11月、南極観測船しらせが就航した。「しらせ」は、全長134メートル、全幅28メートルの大型船で、日本で3番目の南極観測船でる。「しらせ」は、日本と南極の間を25往復して、気象学、地学、生物学など、様々な学問の発展に貢献してきた。
切手はその就航を記念して発行され、「しらせとペンギンとオーロラ」がデザインされている。
Maiden Voyage of Antarctic Observation Ship "Shirase"

In November 1983, the Antarctic research ship Shirase went into service. The Shirase is a large ship with a total length of 134 meters and a total width of 28 meters, and is the third Antarctic research ship in Japan. "Shirase" has made 25 round trips between Japan and Antarctica, and has contributed to the development of various disciplines such as meteorology, earth science, and biology.
The stamp was issued to commemorate the service and is designed with "Shirase, Penguins and Aurora".
