Opening of New Tohoku Line Issued on June 23, 1982 (Showa 57) The Tohoku Shinkansen was constructed by the Japanese National Railways (currently JR), and in 1982 (Showa 57), the section between Omiya Station and Morioka Station was opened. In 1985 (Showa 60), the section between Ueno Station and Omiya Station opened. After the JNR division and privatization, the Tohoku Shinkansen became a JR East line, and in 1991 (Heisei 3), the section between Tokyo and Ueno Station was opened.
The stamp was issued in commemoration of the opening of the Tohoku Shinkansen in 1982, and the "200 series Shinkansen and 1290 type steam locomotive" are designed.
