90th Anniv. of the Diet. Issued on November 29, 1980 (Showa 55) The Japanese parliament was established in 1890 (Meiji 23), and the Imperial Diet was established from the enforcement of the Constitution of the Empire of Japan to the enforcement of the Constitution of Japan on May 3, 1947 (Showa 22).
The Imperial Diet consisted of a publicly elected House of Representatives (lower house) and a non-publicly elected House of Lords (Senate). With the expiration of the Meiji Constitution and the enforcement of the Constitution of Japan on May 3, 1947, the Diet became the legislative body, the House of Representatives was maintained in the House of Representatives, and the House of Councilors was established in place of the House of Peers in the Senate. The stamp was issued to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the opening of the parliament, and the "Parliament Building and Pigeons" are designed. By the way, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued a commemorative stamp for the "70th anniversary of the establishment of the parliament" in 1960.
