東京天文台100年 1978年（昭和53年） 11月 1日発行 郵政省は東京天文台創設１００年記念切手を発行した。東京天文台（現在国立天文台；NAOJと改称）は、理論・観測の両面から天文学を研究する日本の研究所・大学共同利用機関である。大学共同利用機関法人自然科学研究機構を構成する研究所の1つでもある。日本国外のハワイ観測所などいくつかの観測所や、三鷹キャンパスなどで研究活動をしている。因みに１９５３年１０月、この切手の前に「東京天文台創設７５年」記念切手が発行された。
