In 1917, Lions Clubs was born in Chicago, USA. It all started when businessman Melvin Jones set up a national organization to serve people.The Tokyo Lions Club was formed in Japan in 1952, earlier than 1956, when Japan was admitted to the United Nations.The stamp was issued in commemoration of the 61st Lions Club International Convention held in Tokyo, and is designed with the Lions Club mark and the "Karashishizu" drawn by the Japanese painter "Tawaraya Sotatsu" in the early Edo period.
