50th Anniv. of Girl Scout Movement Issued on July 26, 1970 (Showa 45) Girl Scouts originated in England about 100 years ago. It started in 1920 in Japan and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1970. Currently, it is the world's largest organization for girls and women, with approximately 10 million members in 152 countries and territories.In July 1970, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued a stamp to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Japan's membership in Girl Scouts. The stamp is designed with a girl scout to salute.
