原子力船進水 1969年（昭和44年） 6月 12日発行 原子力船「むつ」は、日本原子力船研究開発事業団により、当初海洋観測船として画されたが、結果的に「特殊貨物船」として建造された。船体は1968年に起工、1969年に進水した。1974年8月、外洋の尻屋崎の公海上で放射線漏れを改修工事を行った。放射線漏洩の原因は、原子炉圧力容器と一次遮蔽体との間を放射線が漏れるストリーミングによりおこったもので、遮蔽体の追加工事をした。その後、1991年に1次から4次の実験航海で110日航行し、1992年に解役された。切手は、1969年の原子力船浸水を記念して発行され、原子力船「むつ」と、原子構造図がデザインされている。
Launch of Nuclear Ship Issued on June 12, 1969 (Showa 44) The nuclear ship "Mutsu" was originally planned as an oceanographic observation ship by the Japan Nuclear Ship Research and Development Corporation, but was eventually built as a "special cargo ship". She laid the hull in 1968 and launched it in 1969. In August 1974, she repaired a radiation leak on the high seas of Shiriyazaki in the open sea.The cause of the radiation leak was the streaming of radiation leaking between the reactor pressure vessel and the primary shield, and additional work was done on the shield.
