Return of Ogasawara Is. to Japan Issued on June 26, 1968 (Showa 43) The Ogasawara Islands were discovered in 1593 by Sadayori Ogasawara, the greatgrandson of the owner of Fukashi Castle in Shinshu. People settled in 1830 in the late Edo period. After that, he was internationally recognized as Japanese territory in 1876 by the investigation and development of the Edo Shogunate and the Meiji government. It was under the jurisdiction of the US military at the end of the Pacific War, but returned to Japan in 1968.The stamp was issued to commemorate the return of the Ogasawara Islands to Japan, and is designed with Ogasawara Billow and the dawn of the island.
