75th Anniv. of Telephone Issued on December 16, 1965 (Showa 40) In December 1890 (Meiji 23), a telephone office was opened in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, and a telephone business was started between Tokyo and Yokohama. Initially, 155 subscribers in Tokyo and 44 in Yokohama were available, and 7 females and 2 males were available as telephone operators.The telephone charges at that time were quite high the present value of 400,000 yen per month. These telegraphs and telephones were operated and managed by the Ministry of Communications.
The stamp was issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the telephone, and the dial of the telephone and the exchange equipment at that time were designed.
