Philatelic Week Issued on April 20, 1964 (Showa 39) In April 1964, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued stamp hobby weekly stamps. This time, "Yadorigi" from the Genji Monogatari Emaki was adopted. The Genji Monogatari Emaki is a painting of "Genji Monogatari" and is the oldest existing Japanese picture scroll that was born in the 12th century.Around this time, Japan had an unprecedented stamp boom. Many people lined up in front of the post office to buy commemorative stamps for sale. The reason is that the price of commemorative stamps has increased remarkably since the latter half of 1963, and the released stamps were sold at 1.5 to 3 times at stamp stores and mail order. From that time on, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications began to significantly increase the number of issues. Now, more than 50 years later, unused commemorative stamps are worth less than face value. However, the postmarked mail used at that time is highly rare and is traded at a high price.
