1910年（明治43年）12月、東京の代々木練習場で、徳川好敏大尉と日野熊蔵大尉が日本で初めての動力飛行機の初飛行に成功、この時から日本における飛行機の歴史が始まった。その後、1919年に、日本で初めての航空機による郵便配送が試みられた。（この時に飛行試行の切手が発行されている）
切手は、日本航空のDC-8がデザインされている。

In December 1910 (Meiji 43), Captain Yoshitoshi Tokugawa and Captain Kumazo Hino succeeded in the first flight of a powered airplane in Japan at the Yoyogi practice field in Tokyo, and the history of airplanes in Japan began from this time.Then, in 1919, Japan's first attempted mail delivery by air. (Stamp for a flight trial was issued at this time)
The stamp is designed by Japan Airlines DC-8.
