ハワイ官約移住75年 1960年(昭和35年)8月20日発行 1960年は,近代日本が海外移住の先駆けとしてハワイに移住を開始してから75年にあたる年だった。1885年1月、シティオブトウキョウ号で移住した945人の日本人は、日本とハワイ政府の合意による初めての官約移住者である。その後、ハワイ移住者数は2万9,132人を数えた。彼らはハワイに定着し現在のハワイ日系人社会繁栄の礎となった。現在、ハワイ人口の約25%が日系人である。
Japanese Emigration to Hawaii Issued on August 20, 1960 (Showa 35) 1960 was the 75th year since modern Japan began migrating to Hawaii as a pioneer of overseas migration. The 945 Japanese who emigrated on the City of Tokyo(Emigration ship) in January 1885 were the first official migrants under an agreement between the Japanese and Hawaiian governments. Since then, number of Hawaii immigrants has reached 29,132. They settled in Hawaii and became the cornerstone of the current prosperity of Hawaiian Japanese society. Currently, about 25% of Hawaii's population is of Japanese descent. The stamp was issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Hawaii's official migration, and is designed with a rainbow over the cherry blossoms and pineapples.
