Centenary of Shoin Yoshida and PTA Congress
Issued on October 27, 1959 (Showa 34)

Centenary of Shoin Yoshida and PTA Congress Issued on October 27, 1959 (Showa 34) Shoin Yoshida is a prominent scholar who nurtured many leaders of the Meiji Restoration as the center of the Shokasonjuku Academy at the end of the Edo period. After he was imprisoned for failing to travel abroad, he taught at the Shokasonjuku Academy and many young people gathered. However, he was sent to Edo in 1859 in the "Ansei Purge" due to anti-shogunate activities and was found guilty of death. Shoin Yoshida was deified as an "educator" who created the Meiji Restoration by Hirobumi Ito(First Prime Minister) and others who studied at Shokasonjuku Academy. The stamp was issued in conjunction with the "7th National PTA Tournament" held in Yamaguchi Prefecture, but it is not relevant. At that time, the prime minister was Nobusuke Kishi from Yamaguchi prefecture, and it is speculated that this issue may be the intention of the prime minister.
