Philatelic Week Issued on May 20, 1959 (Showa 34) The author of this painting, Eishi Hosoda, was an ukiyo-e artist in the middle of the Edo period. He first learned painting from the Shogunate Kano Michinobu, and later learned ukiyo-e from Bunryusai. He joins the world of ukiyo-e with the status of a high-ranking samurai and begins drawing nishiki-e. He admired the style of Torii Kiyonaga, and he established his own style in the painting of a tall, neat and beautiful woman.
The stamp is designed with "Ukiyo Genji Hakkei".
