切手趣味週間 1959年（昭和34年） 5月 20日発行 この絵の作者細田栄之は、江戸時代中期の浮世絵師である。絵は初め幕府狩野栄川院典信(かのうえいせんいんみちのぶ)に学び、のち文竜斎に浮世絵を学んだと伝える。天明年間に旗本の身のまま浮世絵の世界に加わり、錦絵の作画を始める。鳥居清長の作風を慕って長身の清楚な美人画に独自の様式を確立した。切手は、「浮世源氏八景」がデザインされている。

The author of this painting, Eishi Hosoda, was an ukiyo-e artist in the middle of the Edo period. He first learned painting from the Shogunate Kano Michinobu, and later learned ukiyo-e from Bunryusai. He joins the world of ukiyo-e with the status of a high-ranking samurai and begins drawing nishiki-e. He admired the style of Torii Kiyonaga, and he established his own style in the painting of a tall, neat and beautiful woman.
The stamp is designed with "Ukiyo Genji Hakkei".
