Centenary of Keio University Issued on November 8, 1958 (Showa 33) Keio University originated from "Rangaku Juku", which was established by Yukichi Fukuzawa in the Nakatsu clan's residence in Edo Tsukiji Teppouzu in 1858. In 1920, along with Waseda University, it became the first private university in Japan. The stamp was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its founding, and is designed by the cram school and its founder, Yukichi Fukuzawa.
