International Geophysical Year Issued on July 1, 1957 (Showa 32) From July 1957 to December 1958, the Geophysical Year Observation Project (IGY) was carried out.Its history is that the international joint observation called the International Polar Year for the purpose of observing meteorology and geomagnetism centered on the polar regions was started in 1882-83, and was carried out as the "International Geophysical Year" in 1957. ..The overall plan is supervised by the International Council for Science (ICSU, now the International Council for Science), including aurora, meteorology, oceans, earthquakes, gravity, geomagnetism, cosmic rays, etc.Observations have been carried out across almost all areas of geophysics.
The stamps are designed with the Antarctic observation ship "Soya" and penguins.
