マナスルは、ネパールのヒマラヤ山脈に属し、標高8,163ｍは世界8位である。山の名は、サンスクリット語で精霊の山」を意味する。世界初の登頂は、1956年５月に、今西壽雄ら日本隊によって達成されている。この成功は戦後の日本登山界に画期的影響があり、登山ブームを巻き起こす社会現象となった。
切手は、登山隊メンバーとマナスルがデザインされている。

The world's first climb was achieved in May 1956 by Toshio Imanishi and other Japanese troops.
