鉄道70年記念 1942年（昭和17年）10月14日発行 1872年（明治5年）、日本は新橋と横浜の間に鉄道を開通した。戦争中でありながらも鉄道省の強い要請によって、逓信省は1種の記念切手を発行した。図案には開通当初の機関車も候補に挙がったが、最終的に最新型の機関車（C59型）が選ばれた。
Railway 70th anniversary Issued on October 14, 1942 (Showa 17) In 1872 (Meiji 5), Japan opened a railway between Shimbashi and Yokohama. The Ministry of Communications issued a commemorative stamp at the strong request of the Ministry of Railways during the war. The first locomotive was also nominated for the design, but the latest locomotive (C59 type) was finally selected.
