紀元2600年記念 1940年（昭和15年）2月11日発行 「日本書紀」（日本最古の歴史書）によれば、日本初代天皇は神武天皇とされている。即位は紀元前660年2月11日と記述されている。逓信省は1940年が紀元2600年にあたる為、記念切手を4種発行した。2銭切手は「金鵄」、4銭切手は「高千穂の峯」を描き、10銭切手は鮎と瓶（いつべ）、20銭切手は「樫原新宮社殿」が描かれている。

According to Nihon Shoki (the oldest history book in Japan), the first Emperor of Japan is Emperor Jimmu. The coronation is described as February 11, 660 BC. The Ministry of Communications issued four kinds of commemorative stamps because 1940 was in 2600 AD. 2sen is "Kinkei", 4sen is "Mt,Takachiho", 10 sen is sweetfish and a bottle, and 20 sen stamp is "Kashihara Shingu shrine"(palace of Emperor Jimmu).
