Centenary of M.C. Perry's Visit Issued on May 26, 1953 (Showa28) In 1853, in the latter half of the 19th century, the Black Ships Fleet of Admiral Perry of the United States, who came to Japan to request the opening of the country, came to Ryukyu as a stepping stone to Japan. After that, the Kingdom of Ryukyu and the United States signed the "Ryukyu Friendship Treaty". However, the Ryukyu Kingdom was incorporated into Japan from Ryukyu Kingdom to Ryukyu Clan to Okinawa Prefecture in the midst of the historical changes in Japan's opening and abolition of the feudal clan, and in 1879 (Meiji 12), Shurijo Castle was surrendered to Japan. It disappeared. Stamps are issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Perry's arrival, with a 3- yen stamp designed for "Ryukyu Leaders and Admiral Perry's Meeting" and a 6-yen stamp designed for "Admiral Perry and the Fleet".
