Newspaper Week'53 Issued on Oct. 1, 1953 (Showa28) Newspaper Week is an event held by the Japan Newspaper Publishers and Editors every October from 1948 (Showa 23) for a week. The origin was held in response to the American "Newspaper Week" at the direction of GHQ, and continues to the present day. The stamps are designed by Okinawan journalist and politician Ota Chofu (1865-1938). He studied under Yukichi Fukuzawa at Keio University and became the president of Ryukyu Shinpo. As a speechist, he also strongly advocated assimilation to the mainland of Okinawa PrefeThe stamps are designed with Ota Chofu and the master of the newspaper.
