350th Anniv. of Sweet Potatoes Issued on Nov. 26, 1955 (Showa30) Sweet potatoes were imported from China to Ryukyu in 1605 (Keicho 10). Prior to that, sweet potatoes native to Central and South America were introduced to Luzon (Philippines) in 1571, and were transferred to Fujian, China by Chen Zhenlong in 1594. The stamp was issued in commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the introduction of sweet potatoes, and the shrine and sweet potatoes of Noguni Sokangu are designed.
