自動式電話開通 1956（昭和31年） 6月 8日発行 沖縄の電話の歴史は、（明治43）に始まった。電話の開設の初期から自動交換機の登場以前は「交換手」が手動で回線をつなげていた。日本本土では自動式電話が1926年（大正15）に一部スタートしたが、沖縄が自動化されたのは1956年（昭和31）6月である。切手はこれを記念して発行され、「電話機とダイヤル」がデザインされている。 参考；TIME＆SPACE by KDDI
Dial Telephone System Issued on Jun. 8, 1956 (Showa31) The history of telephones in Okinawa began in (Meiji 43). From the early days of the opening of telephones to before the advent of automatic exchanges, "switchboard operators" manually connected the lines. In mainland Japan, some automatic telephones started in 1926 (Taisho 15), but Okinawa was automated in June 1956 (Showa 31).
